Chilli Festival and Wasp Stings!

Well it is possible that I was being a little unrealistic last week when I suggested that things had calmed down a little in the US after they agreed to increase their debt ceiling – Thursday and Friday were very volatile days so I think I will leave commenting on the economies across the world to the experts!

To more mundane matters it seems that good health has returned to the company with the exception of poor Angie, Storrington Residential Letting Department, who spent her birthday in bed with the bug that had hit the rest of us the week before. Although I think most of us make less of a fuss about our birthdays as we get older, to spend it sick in bed really isn’t very fair.

Marion who works in the Storrington Sales Office had a busy weekend planned with friends. She had invited some friends to stay in order to go to the Chilli Festival at West Dean near Chichester. She had planned a Mediterranean theme for her weekend at her home in Horsham and was serving moussaka one evening and paella the next. She then had a barbecue on Sunday which was when the fun really started! Marion tucked into her steak only to find that she had also popped a wasp in her mouth. After much drama her husband was able to extract the sting from poor Marion’s mouth by which time the little beast at stung her three or four times. She is still feeling a little tingly today!

The Chilli Festival seems very popular with approximately 10,000 people attending on both Saturday and Sunday. West Dean House is in a beautiful location on the South Downs and this annual festival is clearly very popular. Philip from Storrington Residential Lettings went along with his partner, Owen, and sister in law. You can buy anything to do with chillis; chilli jam, chilli sauce, dried chillis, chilli plants and much more. There are demonstrations from companies who make these products but the one disappointment for Owen was that there was no chilli con carne!

Personally I had quite a quiet weekend which was perfect as we needed time at home to tidy the garden before we go on holiday next week. However we did have a sad event as one of our four chickens died. Poor Posy was elderly in chicken terms and had been looking rather poorly for a day or so – luckily nature stepped in and she died peacefully; much better than medical intervention!

Finally what a wonderful picture of Pete Davis, husband of Fran from our Pulborough Office, who together run the West Chiltington Village Day which was a great success despite the adverse weather.
