Congratulations Team GB - what an inspiration!

There can really only be one thing to talk about in the blog today ...  It could be the fact that Michelle, our social media manager’s little boy has a new hamster to brighten up their Horsham home.  Or it could be that Angie has bravely gone off camping with her two daughters to the New Forest ... well she has told us she is camping ... she has probably gone to a luxury four star hotel.  Or is it that my brother in law hits the ripe old age of 60 this week?  I don’t think so – I think we have to talk about the amazing weekend for Team GB!

I was in Berkshire on Saturday but we were aiming to be home in time for Jessica Ennis to run her 800m race.  We had sat (none to patiently) on the M25 in the morning taking an hour to cover a few miles so we were a little anxious about the return journey.  However everyone was obviously at home watching TV as there was little traffic and we made it back to West Chiltington in time.  Although she did not need to win the race in order to win the gold psychologically it felt right that she should be in first place.  She was amazing ... how she found that extra speed was incredible and it was such an emotional race.

When the 10,000 metre race began we were on the edges of our seats.  We had seen Mo Farah being interviewed and he wanted the gold so badly.  It seemed that there was a bit of pushing and shoving at times but again he ran a brilliant race and I think the whole country was willing him to win.

The radio coverage has been excellent too – despite being stuck on the M25 earlier in the day we were able to really buy into the atmosphere as the rowers were doing brilliantly at the time.  Chris Evans is a bit of a favourite of mine and he and his colleague, Vassos Alexander, are doing their show from the Olympic Park seven days a week at the moment and their excitement is infectious.

The Team Pursuit in cycling was another incredible moment – the three British girls almost lapped the Americans but it is inspiring when you hear them talking afterwards as every one of these athletes as such determination and dedication to their sport.

Then we had the icing on the cake with Andy Murray winning gold yesterday in the tennis.  I did actually find myself feeling a bit sorry for Roger Federer as he was so completely outplayed but when they received their medals there seemed a really good vibe between them.

I do feel that this success in sport is having a real ‘feel good’ effect on everyone, sporty and unsporty.  Everyone is talking about it and enjoying it – it really is shaking off some of the doom and gloom that we are all so tired off ... hopefully it can continue long beyond the closing ceremony!
