A fantastic Closing Ceremony and what a beautiful county we live in!

Well the Olympics may be over but I think they will live on for a while yet.  Of course there are the Paralympics to look forward to and I understand from my colleague, Alison, that the Paralympic torch will be going through Horsham on Saturday 25th August so that will be worth seeing.   I am hoping to go to the Paralympics at the end of the month as these athletes deserve so much respect and I would love to see either the dressage or the athletics and also to see the Olympic stadium.

The Closing Ceremony was amazing ... I enjoyed the music just as much as the Opening Ceremony and the atmosphere felt amazing even via the television so I can only imagine how vibrant it must have been to be there. Our Media Manager Michelle actually tweeted the closing ceremony through the evening for all our twitter followers!

I heard on the radio that the politicians are hoping to make the most of the ‘feel good’ factor that the Olympics has created.  I really hope that in some way it can be used to boost the morale of the country ... I think a lot of people have unleashed a patriotic side to their character that they didn’t realise they had!

So what else has been going on in our area of West Sussex?  Last Thursday we went to Petersfield to watch my brother in law go up in a hot air balloon ... we had to take a detour to get their due to an accident closing a road in Chichester and drove through West Marden and Compton – it was the most beautiful drive and introduced us to some more West Sussex/Hampshire villages that we were unaware of.

Earlier in the week Neil had been lucky enough to be invited up in a helicopter – he went from Lyminster near Arundel and flew over villages such as Wepham, Burpham, Warningcamp and on towards the coast.  He had never been in a helicopter before and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Arundel featured in our week as on Monday we went for dinner at The Bay Tree Restaurant in Tarrant Street.  This is a great little restaurant, family owned, really good food and friendly service.

Fran from our Pulborough Office spent Sunday in the saddle, perhaps inspired by the Olympic cyclists.  She was part of a group of four who did a 10k bike round around Bosham.  This is another beautiful part of West Sussex and an area well represented by our sister company, Amberley House Cottage Holidays.  She and her husband Pete are slightly suffering from post wedding blues, a condition I am very well acquainted with!  To help they went to see a production of Kiss Me Kate at Chichester Festival Theatre, apparently it was an excellent production that will be soon be in London.

Unfortunately Pat, our wonderful secretary in Storrington Office, has had a stressful couple of weeks.  Pat’s mother is 92 now and recently had a two week spell in hospital before returning to her nursing home in Burgess Hill.  She was recovering well but then had a fall and broke her hip.  She was taken to Brighton Hospital to be operated on and has made an amazing recovery considering her age and frailty.  She is now back in Haywards Heath hospital and we all wish her well.

Angie, who also works from Storrington Office, spent a few days last week camping in the New Forest with her daughters.  Apart from a deflated airbed they had a great time, the weather was fairly kind to them and they were great ambassadors for girl power as they put their tent up without any problems!

So life post Olympics begins ... let’s hope those politicians are right and we enjoy some upbeat times!!
