The name Loxwood could be derived from a Saxon God called Lokka although Lox is also described as a stream, which seems a more likely derivation.
Loxwood has a thriving village community with a number of clubs and societies. The Wey and Arun Canal Society has restored the disused canal and boat trips can be taken up and down the canal now.
In the village is Loxwood school and chilldren go on from there to the Weald School in Billingshurst. There is also a village hall, sports centre, church, two pubs and village shops, including a sub-Post Office and a medical centre.
Close by is Billingshurst, with a main line railway station giving easy access to London and the A272 and A29 open up the road network across West Sussex.
